The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo Teams continued to demonstrate their dedication, talent, and unwavering competitive spirit this last weekend as they competed at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Both teams left a lasting impression in the rodeo arena, with the Women's Team securing an impressive 2
nd place, reaffirming their championship ambitions. The Men's Team faced tough competition and secured 11
th place. As the season progresses, both teams are determined to work toward their championship goals.
Kiley Slavin, a force to be reckoned with in the arena, claimed the Women's All-Around Champion title, a great testament to her exceptional skill and determination.
The Goat Tying event witnessed extraordinary performances from the OPSU athletes. Junior
Parker McIntyre once again dominated the arena with a lighting fast long round time of 6.4 seconds, earning a 1
st/2
nd split. Her short round was equally impressive, clocking in a swift 5.8 seconds and securing 1
st place in the average.
Kiley Slavin displayed her skills, earning a respectable 6
th/7
th/8
th place split in the long round with an impressive time of 6.8 seconds. In the short round, she placed a solid 4
th with a 6.5 second run, resulting in a 4
th place finish in the average.
Kayla Johnson also demonstrated her determination with a long round time of 7.1 seconds, securing a 10
th/11
th/12
th place split. In the short round, she showcased her skills with an 8.1 second time earning 7
th place and split 7
th/8
th in the average.
Kiley Slavin returned to the arena to show off her skills in Breakaway Roping. Her long round performance was exceptional, earning her 3
rd/4
th place split with a 2.3 second run. In the short round, she achieved a 6
th/7
th place split, ultimately securing 6
th place in the average.
Kiley Slavin continued her outstanding performance in Barrel Racing, earning 8th place in the long round. In the short round, she clocked in at 13.01 seconds, securing 3rd place in the go and ultimately earning 4th place in the Average.
Jenna Shemak made her mark in Barrel Racing, securing 9th place in the long round with a 13.48 second run, and 10th place in the short round, ultimately finishing 10th in the Average.
In the Tie Down Roping event,
Matt Doherty showcased his skills with a long round time of 10.6 seconds, securing a 6
th/7
th/8
th place split. His short round performance was equally impressive with a speedy 9.9 second run for a 4
th place finish and split 4
th/5
th in the average.
Evan Meashaw, another talented roper for OPSU, made it back to the short round after a 9
th place finish in the long go with a 10.7 second run. Meashaw had a solid short round run time of 11.7 seconds securing him 10
th in the round and splitting 9
th/10
th in the average.
The OPSU Saddle Bronc riders put on a show, starting with
Brett Coffman. Coffman's long round score of 70 points landed him in 2
nd/3
rd place. He faced tough luck in the short round resulting in no score, but ultimately scored high enough to split 4
th/5
th in the average.
Jadeyn James had his turn in the arena and scored 51 points in the long round. With an unfortunate no score in the short round, James still managed to secure a7
th place finish in the average.
Aiden Smith's Steer Wrestling performance was commendable, with a long round time of 5.7 seconds, securing 10th-12th place. In the short round, he displayed skill and determination, earning 7th place in the round and the in the average.
The dynamic duo of
Jacob Wright and Justin Wright of Garden City Community College impressed the crowd of the Alva doom with their teamwork in Team Roping. Their long round time of 5.4 seconds earned them 3rd place. In the short round, they steady and secured 5th place, ultimately finishing 4th in the average.
OPSU is sitting strong in the Central Plain Region Standings as the first half of the season comes to a close. The Women's Team have set a solid foundation for their hopes to send a team to College National Finals Rodeo in June as they currently sit 2
nd overall with a 948-point lead over OSU. Notably,
Parker McIntyre is leading the way in Goat Tying, holding an exceptional 1st place in the region.
McKenna Brennan follows closely in 3rd place, and
Kiley Slavin stands strong in 5th place.
Camree Slavin has already let the region know she means business as a freshman splitting 11
th/12
th in the region in the Breakaway Roping.
Kiley Slavin has made her presence known known in the Barrel Racing, securing the 14th-17th spot in the standings.
The Men's team finished out the fall season 7
th in the region with a chance to come back strong in the spring.
Brett Coffman has impressed in Saddle Bronc Riding, sitting 4th fighting to be in the Top 3 to make a trip to the CNFR.
Kody Cavender isn't far behind holding 7th/8th position. In Tie Down Roping,
Matt Doherty is determinedly working his way up and currently holds the 15th place. Steer Wrestler,
Ryler Allred consistently showed up and is holding 12
th/13
th place in the region. Team Roper
Jacob Wright holds a solid 11th-13th position through his continued efforts. These regional standings reflect the dedication and talent of OPSU's rodeo athletes, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
