The OPSU Rodeo team showcased their exceptional talent and determination as they competed at KSU over the weekend. Despite facing tough competition, both the men's and women's teams left their mark in the rodeo arena, solidifying their position as top contenders on the road competing for a national championship.
The women's team secured an impressive 3
rd place with their outstanding performance, showcasing their strength and competitive skills. This performance confirmed their status as a leading force in the region and continues to motivate them to strive for the top spot throughout the season.
Meanwhile, the men's team showed resilience and skill, achieving a respectable 5
th place in a competitive environment. Their commitment and effort during the competition demonstrated their strong dedication to being the best.
The individual OPSU athletes delivered a remarkable performance across their various events.
In Saddle Bronc Riding,
Brett Coffman had an impressive 82-point ride in the long go, putting him at the top in 1
st place. He followed up with a 70-point ride in the short go, placing third in the round and ended 2
nd in the average.
Ryler Allred also impressed in Steer Wrestling. The athlete secured 4
th place in the long round with a 4.98-second run and followed up with 5.4-second short round, placing him 3
rd in the round and 2
nd in the overall average
.
Cade Bell and
Lalo Aguilar competed in Team Roping, splitting 6
th and 7
th place in the long round with a time of 7.9 seconds. Unfortunately, the ropers faced tough luck in the short round, finishing with no time.
Tell Tavegie teamed up with
Ry Clark, a recent graduate of OPSU and now athlete from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, to compete and finished 12
th in the short round with a 9.1 second time but also finished with no time in the short round.Â
The Aggie cowgirls couldn't let the boys have all the fun. In the Goat Tying,
Parker McIntyre placed 4
th in the long round with a 6.5-second run. She followed that with a 6.6-second run in the short round splitting 2
nd and 3
rd in the go and finishing 2
nd place in the average.
Kayla Johnson also had an impressive long run time of 6.8 seconds, splitting 5
th and 6
th. She stayed consistent with that time in the short round, placing her at 4
th and splitting 3
rd and 4
th in the average.
In Barrel Racing,
Kiley Slavin placed 8
th in the long round with a 12.39 second run. She had a 17.87 second time in the short round after unfortunately hitting a barrel taking her out of the average.
Kohley Longmeyer followed close behind, placing 9
th in the long go with a 12.42 second run. Longmeyer also had a 17.87 second short round where she hit a barrel also taking her out of the average.
With the women's team in the lead for the region and the men's team holding a solid 6
th position, OPSU rodeo athletes are ready to continue on this spring for a successful season. Their great performances at KSU showcase their determination and dedication to excellence and set the scene for an exciting season as they continue to chase their championship goals.
