Panhandle State Shooting Sports Sees Improvement at Bobcat Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State shooting sports team saw several members notch personal bests when it traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday and Sunday for the Bobcat Invitational.
 
OPSU's team score wound up at 1,221 of a possible 1,500 in the three-event meet, with the Aggies performing best relative to the field at skeet shooting, where it outshot Hastings by six targets.
 
Panhandle State had total trap score of 443, followed by skeet at 434 and sporting clays at 344.
 
Cameron Smith was the Aggies' top performer, tying for 15th in the HOA out of 72 men in the four-year school division. Smith led OPSU in both trap and sporting by hitting 97 and 81 out of 100 targets, respectively, and he finished the competition hitting 271 out of 300 possible targets.
 
John Lindley had solid showings across the board, finishing 38th overall with scores of 90, 89 and 74 in trap, skeet and sporting.
 
Rhett Green came through with the Aggies' best performance in skeet shooting, contacting 94 targets en route to a total score of 240.
 
Meanwhile, Austin Tipton was accurate in trap shooting, connecting on 96 targets for the team's second best effort in the event.
 
Luke Yelton also had solid scores in trap and skeet with scores of 84 and 80.
 
What's up next: OPSU continues its fall season on Nov. 1-2 with a trip to Goodland, Kansas, for a shoot hosted by Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
