OPSU Takes Season-Best Third Place at Tiger Shootout

GOODLAND, Kan. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State shooting sports team took third place at the Tiger Shootout hosted by Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Nov. 1-2, notching its best finish of the season.

OPSU missed out on a runner-up showing by just 19 targets, finishing with a score of 1,349 out of 2,000 in the four-event shoot. University of Wyoming claimed second place, while host-FHTNW won the five-team competition.

Cameron Smith had a big weekend for the Aggies, finishing with the squad's best score in skeet, sporting and double trap. The senior's efforts hoisted Smith into the top-10 overall of 35 competitors, placing seventh with a total of 289.

Compared to the other teams competing, OPSU's best category was sporting, where it shot 312 of 500 targets, good for second place with five more than UWYO.

Behind Smith, Zach Willis was the next top shot for the Aggies, finishing 15th. He and Luke Yelton led the Aggies in trap shooting, each hitting 90 targets.

Austin Tipton and John Lindley also had a solid weekend, with Tipton shooting well in sporting with a score of 67, tied for 12th among 34 participants in the event. Lindley, meanwhile, finished third on the team in both double trap and sporting.

Rhett Green placed second on the Aggies in both double trap and skeet, highlighted by his score of 88 in skeet.

What's up next: OPSU has one more competition scheduled for its fall season, an ACUI event set to take place Nov. 15-16 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
