ARCADIA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State shooting sports team received positive contributions from up and down its roster, including from a trio of new faces, at the Cowboy Shootout on Saturday and Sunday hosted by the OSU Shotgun Sports Club.
Topping the Aggies in the Individual HOA was senior Cameron Smith, who has been a steady presence and leader for the squad all season. Smith recorded a final score of 291 out of a possible 350, including hitting a team-best 91 out of 100 targets in skeet and a team-high 71 in doubles trap.
Rhett Green was solid throughout the competition, finishing amongst the top half for the Aggies in all four categories: trap, skeet, doubles trap and 5-stand over the weekend. His scores of 92 and 87 in trap and skeet, respectively, both placed second on the team, and he was second on the Aggies with a 278 in the HOA.
Next up for OPSU was Austin Tipton, who hit 276 out of 350 targets overall. Tipton posted the team's best effort in trap shooting, connecting on 94 targets. He also notched a team-best score of 40 out of 50 in the 5-stand.
Luke Yelton posted consistently strong scores in trap, skeet and doubles trap to finish at 267 overall targets hit. Taylor Blickenstaff rounded out the returners' scores from the fall season with his 253 overall.
Amongst three spring semester additions, Eric Barlow impressed by hitting 92 trap targets en route to posting an overall score of 246. Fellow senior newcomer Kaden Richardson was just behind with his 244 in the HOA, highlighted by the team's third strongest performance in 5-stand at 34 out of 50 targets. Demontray Pritchett completed the Aggies' efforts, connecting on 165 total targets.
Despite the strong individual performances in several events, the Aggies did not place in the top three teams among seven full squads at the OSU-hosted shoot. Angelo State won the competition with a team score of 1,622.
