Goodwell, OK — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University rodeo teams took to the arena this past weekend in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to compete in a highly competitive college rodeo hosted by Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The Aggie men's team finished sixth overall, while the women's team secured a ninth-place finish.
On the men's side, several strong individual performances highlighted the weekend. In the saddle bronc riding, both Riley Stark and Kody Cavender advanced to the short round after solid rides in the long round. Stark impressed with a 75-point ride, placing him second going into the short round. However, a challenging matchup in the short round resulted in a no-score. Cavender followed with a 71-point ride in the long round and backed it up with a 69-point ride in the short round, earning him a fourth-place finish in the average.
Cade Bell delivered a strong performance in steer wrestling, posting a time of 5.2 seconds in the long round to sit third going into the short round. Unfortunately, a 14.0-second time in the finals kept him just outside the average payout.
Porter Hall represented the Aggies in the tie down roping with an 11.2-second run in the long round, securing the 10th spot heading into the short round. However, Hall encountered tough luck and recorded a no-time in the short round.
In team roping, the duo of Brandt Walton and Matt Doherty clocked a fast 6.9-second run in the long round, tying them for third and fourth. Despite a five-second leg penalty in the short round, they still managed a 12.0-second run, which earned them a sixth-place finish in the average.
On the women's side, Parker McIntyre and Kiley Slavin each posted 3.6-second runs in the long round of the breakaway roping, placing them in a tie for seventh and eighth. Unfortunately, both ropers received no-times in the short round.
Camree Slavin turned in a solid 8.2-second goat-tying run in the long round to sit tied for seventh through ninth. She followed with an 8.1-second run in the short round, but the time wasn't quite enough to break into the average standings.
With only a few rodeos left in the season, the Aggies continue to push for valuable regional points in the Central Plains Region standings.
