Goodwell, OK. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's and women's rodeo teams traveled north to compete at the Garden City Community College Rodeo over the weekend, battling a competitive field in the Central Plains Region. The men's team finished the event in seventh place, while the women's team landed a tie for sixth/seventh.
On the women's side, Kiley Slavin turned in a strong performance in the barrel racing. Slavin clocked a 14.65-second run in the long round, earning her a spot in the short round at number nine. However, a knocked barrel in the short round resulted in a 20.13-second time, taking her out of the average standings.
Parker McIntyre had a standout weekend in the goat tying. She recorded a 7.3-second run in the long round, which placed her fourth heading into the short round. McIntyre followed up with a solid 8.6-second run in the short round, finishing with a two-head average of 15.9 seconds and splitting second through fourth in the average—marking a strong finish for the Aggie cowgirl.
On the men's side, Cade Bell and Riley Stark both made their presence known in the saddle bronc riding. Bell scored 62 points in the long round, putting him in a tie for 11th-13th place. He followed up with a 64-point ride in the short round, finishing with 126 on two head but falling outside of the average placings.
Stark had a strong showing with a 70-point ride in the long round, sitting sixth heading into the short round. He improved with a 72-point ride in the short round, earning fifth place in the average—just outside the payout.
The Aggies had a solid showing in team roping, with multiple teams qualifying for the short round. Cooper Wood and Dawson Strecker posted a time of 8.7 seconds in the long round, splitting sixth through eighth place. Unfortunately, the duo came up short with a no-time in the short round.
Tell Tavegie, partnered with Ally Brennaman from Oklahoma State University, turned in an 8.6-second run in the long round. The team advanced to the short round, but a broken barrier and leg penalty added precious seconds, resulting in a 22.3-second time and removing them from average contention.
Brandt Walton and Matt Doherty had a highlight moment in the long round, clocking a blazing 6.1-second run to win the round and enter the short round in the number one spot. However, a no-time in the short round dashed their hopes of taking home the average title.
