NEWTON, Kan. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's golf team continued its season Monday with the first two rounds of the Central Plains Invite at the 6,872-yard Sand Creek Station course in Newton, Kansas.
Thantup Saengvut carded back-to-back under-par rounds, including tying his career low with a first-round score of 70 (-2). He finds himself tied-third and just three strokes back of the leader.
Worathan Thammachokecharoen stands at four-over par, highlighted by an even-par second round.
Xavyer Mosqueda bounced back from a tough initial 18 holes to shoot 80 in the second round. His scorecard was punctuated by an albatross on the par-five fourth hole playing 552 yards into the wind, as well as an eagle on the par-five 16th.
Paul Mercado fired an excellent round of two-over 74 in the first round but finished his day at 12-over through 36 holes.
As a team, OPSU finds itself in sixth out of eight squads with matching scores of 305-305, or 34-over par. Columbia and Baker sit atop the team leaderboard in red figures at four- and one-under par, respectively.
With inclement weather on the horizon, the men's teams are hoping to squeeze in the final 18 holes of the Kansas Wesleyan-hosted tournament Tuesday.
