GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State shooting sports team took to its first shoot of the season from Sept. 26-28 at Heartland Shooting Park for the Prairie Valley Circuit Conference Championship.

OPSU placed seventh overall in the competition, with its highest team score coming in skeet shooting where the Aggies hit 437 out of 500 targets.

Fort Hays State University won the Championship with a total overall score of 2,390 out of 2,500.

Zach Willis was the Aggies' top performer in trap, sporting, double skeet and skeet shooting. He shot at least 80 targets in 100 tries in all of the aforementioned categories except sporting.

John Lindley, meanwhile, had OPSU's highest score in the double trap, where he successfully hit 70 targets.

In the HOA, Willis placed 86th with a score of 394 out of a possible 500. Cam Smith had strong performances in trap, skeet and sporting to come in as the next highest finisher for the Aggies, while Zane Doehring was right behind.

Though the upperclassmen led the way for Panhandle State, first-year head coach Jeffrey Cramer commented on how far the freshmen (Luke Yelton, Austin Tipton and Taylor Blickenstaff) have come since arriving on campus. Cramer is looking for continued improvement as the team practices and prepares for future competitions.
